Daniel Caetano was born in São Paulo, Brazil. As an undergraduate student at the Universidade de São Paulo he was first interested in beetle systematics. In the beginning of the Biology course he worked under the supervision of Dr. Sérgio A. Vanin and described a species of Erodiscina (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). He also updated the description of a genus (Pimelerodius) and the distribution of another species of Pimelerodius. In the middle of 2007 he joined the Laboratory of Arthropod Behavior and Evolution. His current project in the LABE aims to investigate the ecology and phenology of a giant viviparous cockroach, Blaberus parabolicus (Blattaria: Blaberidae), which occurs in the Brazilian savanna.
